Understanding D.I.D.

Dissociation is an infant and childhood coping method

Being able to dissociate as an infant or child is very helpful to survive overwhelming experiences.

Many of us would be crazy or dead if we would have had to cognitively remember the overwhelming things that happened to us as an infant or child. The ability to dissociate that memory gives us instant relief of all that we're experiencing. And while it does help us endure as a child, our dissociation can cause much disruption in our adult lives.
